Newmarket, Randwick was constructed for client Cbus Property. The new and dynamic community had preservation at its heart, with the design team looking to create a landscape that preserved the intricate history of the area.
We worked alongside Landscape Solutions, with landscape architecture by Arcadia Landscape Architecture, to create a space that catered to community needs while recognising Randwick’s local history.
To celebrate Newmarket’s heritage and enhance sustainability, more than 80,000 bricks and hardwood timber were salvaged from the stables and recycled. This strongly influences the character of the site, and the recycled brick paving, planter walls and seating zones ensure a consistent visual transition through to the park.
The Sales Ring Playground is a huge point of difference for the Newmarket community. The framework structure is the old Sales Ring where annual thoroughbred sales once took place. We constructed the double helix slide in the playground, along with the many climbing nets. They also constructed arbours throughout the public park, and within the residents private seating areas.
Interweaving old and new, this landscape pays homage to the location’s rich history while providing the community with a space to gather, interact and enjoy.
